A number of website or link on history subject has been created to facilitate the teaching and learning process. Schoolhistory.co.uk is one of the websites which can be used by both teachers and students whom studied in United Kingdom (U.K). It is suitable to be accessed by various levels of students in U.K particularly primary school students (4 until 11 years old), year 7 (11-12 years old), year 8 (12-13 years old), year 9 (13-14 years old), GCSE (14-16 years old) and AS/A2 (16-18 years old).
The main contents of the website are links of the sub-topics according to the level of studies, online history lessons, free downloadable resources, interactivities, interactive games, interactive quizzes, teachers’ section, online revision and directory section for the website. The general contents can be found by clicking the button ‘Home’ at the heading of the website.
Despite of providing all the sub-topic, this website also provide 4 other type of online lessons which are full lessons, ICT application, mini lessons and revision lessons. There is also an online revision page with interactive revision diagrams and several categorized links and exercises.
Other than that, the interactivities section provides interactive diagrams, interactive storyboards and interactive 3D tours as an additional to facilitate learning and teaching process. Interactive games and interactive quizzes section also have the same function with different tools. Examples of interactive games are ‘walk the plank’, ‘penalty shootout, ‘hoop shoot’, ‘fling the teacher’, ‘noughts & crosses’ and many more. Meanwhile, examples of interactive quizzes are multiple choice, match-up, historical pairs, flash cards, word searches, sliding puzzles and many more. All of these sections are very useful.
In addition to that, the downloadable resources page has been updated to allow quick, easy access which is contributed by other teachers and currently there are over than 1400 pages of resources available. There are plenty of sub-topic with different level of stages can be downloaded through this page. Interestingly, teachers can having discussion among the teachers in this website through the forum section whereas students also can have discussion among themselves. However, an individual needs to sign up or register an account before having conversation with others.
In conclusion, this website can be very useful and beneficial for teachers and students to excel in the learning and teaching process particularly in United Kingdom. It is recommended for Ministry of Education in Malaysia to create websites related to history subject and keep updating the websites especially the new generation (Gen-Y) tend to choose technology as their devices nowadays.
